Not only literary scholars, but also philosophers, cultural scientists, sociologists, and theologians have been arguing about the great Russian writer F. M. Dostoevsky for a century and a half. The writer’s worldwide fame was determined by five novels: Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, Demons, The Adolescent, and The Brothers Karamazov. But no less interesting are his other works, which can be called an overture to the great Pentateuch, because they were the beginning of Dostoevsky’s painful reflections on the “mystery of man.” The current edition includes the early stories The Double and Mr. Prokharchin, as well as the novel The Gambler.
