F. M. Dostoevsky became one of those symbols of Russian culture that to this day define the image of Russia throughout the world. The writer's early works - a sentimental novel, by the author's own definition, "White Nights" and an unfinished novel about a suffering child, "Netochka Nezvanova" - are stories of a dream collapsing. The story of the protagonist's love for the girl Nastenka illuminates his lonely life, but does not make him happy. Sentimental and sensitive heroes cannot withstand a collision with reality. Thus, the fate of Netochka Nezvanova anticipates the appearance of the exalted heroines of Dostoevsky's famous novels. The theme of a suffering child is continued in the famous story "A Boy at Christ's Christmas Tree". The origins of his later works are clearly visible in these works.
