Morphine

A young doctor, addicted to doses of morphine, turns into a patient. Bulgakov managed to describe in frightening detail the feelings of a morphine addict, the depth of despair and the endless hope for liberation from a destructive addiction. The stories are largely based on Bulgakov's experience as a doctor in a rural hospital, where the future writer, performing complex operations, tried to comprehend his life's purpose.
