Doctor Zhivago

Academician D. Likhachev called Doctor Zhivago Pasternak's spiritual autobiography. Perhaps this is the most accurate and the shortest - therefore it is possible that the most valuable - description of the book. Only the author himself can add or clarify: "I am now writing a large novel in prose about a man who is a certain resultant between Blok and me (and Mayakovsky and Yesenin, perhaps)." As a result, a book appeared with a large-scale canvas of Russian life from the beginning of the 20th century to the Great Patriotic War. The aphorism "I haven't read it, but I condemn it!" appeared in the country - and the tragic persecution of the author as a traitor and slanderer of the Soviet system. And a new Nobel laureate appeared in the history of world literature - Boris Leonidovich Pasternak.
