It is HARD TO BELIEVE that the best, benchmark example of Russian science fiction - "The Doomed City" by the Strugatsky brothers - was conceived in the late 60s and completed in 1972, the degree of internal freedom of this novel is too amazing, impossible for those times. They didn't even write THIS "for the drawer"... THIS seemed incredible. However, the entire incredible, almost detective story of the fate of the "Doomed City", presented in the "Comments" to the novel, makes you believe - it was EXACTLY THIS. And this only makes reading the novel more interesting!
