"Notes from the House of the Dead", "Notes from the Underground", "Crime and Punishment", "The Idiot" and other masterpieces had already been written, but Dostoevsky still experienced a sharp feeling of dissatisfaction and, by his own admission, was only just approaching his main work. In 1871-1872, his sixth novel was published with the provocative and symbolic title "Demons". A fascinating drama, a gripping plot, raging passions and extraordinary, wild events "under the glass bell jar" of a provincial town - this is one of the greatest works of not only Russian, but also world literature.
