The Silence of the Lambs

Thomas Harris (b. 1940) is an American writer and journalist, a master of psychological detective fiction. Covering crime news for the Associated Press, he gained invaluable experience in communicating with the criminal world, which had a huge impact on his literary work. The death of eleven athletes in Munich at the 1972 Olympic Games prompted Harris to write his first novel, Black Sunday. The following books about Dr. Hannibal "Cannibal" Lecter brought him worldwide fame and recognition. The novels The Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon were adapted for the screen. The books in the Hannibal Lecter series could be used to teach rookie police and FBI officers, as they accurately reflect their work.
